Filming Day Four

Today was our fourth day of filming. We filmed the car scene which was in Edmonton using the actors dads car. It was difficult to film the birds eye view of the car driving as the window in the flat was not high enough, however, we tried our best to make it look like it is a birds eye view shot. We didn't check the weather as we did not need to as the scene was filmed inside the car so it didn't matter if it rained, which it did but was not a problem. We had our storyboards with us and we ensured that we stuck to our storyboards strictly and precisely to ensure that everything was filmed to a high standard and as a result, we did not take very long to film. We all had team roles (listed in a post below) in which we all stuck to. Overall, I would say that it was a very productive day of filming, we are hoping to film more footage soon.

Above is an attached picture of the booking form of me and my group signing to borrow the DSLR camera and tripod. We are prepared to shoot the car scene on Saturday 24th October.

Editing Day Two

Today we uploaded the footage from yesterday. We decided to name all the files by location so that it is easier to find the clips. We realised that we forgot to convert the files so we converted the files so that the files aren't too big.

Filming Day Three

Today was our third day of filming. We used the photography studio to film the studio scene. As the photography studio had a black backdrop we couldn't film the silhouette shots which was unfortunate. We used the flasheads to suit our preference of lighting. After a while, we had to leave the photography studio as other students booked it so we didn't finish all our shots, however, we decided to finish off the shots that were left in the TV studio. In the TV studio, there was a projector and a laptop, we came up with the idea of using the projector to show a nice colourful backdrop from the internet to compliment Sarah's (main actor) outfit instead of the silhouette shots. We all had team roles (listed in a post below) in which we all stuck to.We had our storyboards with us so that we knew exactly what we were doing which allowed us to finish filming quickly as we knew exactly what we were doing. Overall, I would say that it was a very productive day, even though we had problems, we used our initiative and improvised to resolve the issues and as a result, came up with a better resolution than what was actually planned. We are hoping to film more footage soon.

Editing Day One

Since we weren't planning on filming today, we decided to go to the editing suite. We uploaded all our footage from the memory card from the camera onto the Macs and made a folder and saved all the files on the folder and then uploaded the files on Final Cut Pro. We dragged all the files onto the sidebar on Final Cut Pro.We looked over our footage. We also downloaded our song, Jealous Type, on the Mac. We are hoping to start editing properly next media lesson.

Filming Day Two

Today was our second day of filming. We filmed the Olympic Park scene and a few other scenes.  Before making our way to Olympic Park, me and my group went to a firework shop to buy sparklers to use for the Olympic Park scene (last scene) and then we travelled to our location. Before leaving for our location, we checked the weather to see whether it would rain, we were pleased to see that it wouldn't be and this was the case. The lighting of the location was not as bad as Saturday which was an advantage as we want to get the lighting of our video perfect. We decided to film near the trees as the scenery looked nice. We had problems with lighting the sparklers due to it being very windy in the location however, after several times of trying to light them up we finally got them working. We lit them at the perfect time as it was becoming dark which meant that the sparklers would show up on the cameras much more nicer and brighter. We also decided to film the sparklers bit behind a stone background in the park and under a bridge to give our music video an urban feel to it and also we wanted the area to be isolated so that all the focus can be on the actor and the sparklers. We all had team roles (listed in a post below) in which we all stuck to.We had our storyboards with us so that we knew exactly what we were doing which allowed us to finish filming quickly as we knew exactly what we were doing.Overall, I would say that this was another productive day of filming as we quickly got the swing of things as we had already filmed for a whole day on Saturday and also got a lot of filming done. We are hoping to film more footage soon. Here are some attached pictures of the day taken by our phones:

Researching and Planning the Moving Image Work

Call Sheet (Filming Day Two)

We decided not to use Hyde Park as a location instead we will be using Olympic Park. We decided not to use Hyde Park as it is far and time is limited and also, there is not much scenery just a lot of greenery. So instead of using Hyde Park, we decided to use Olympic Park as it is local and has a lot of nice scenery which is what we wanted. Here is the call sheet:

Filming Day One

Today was our first day of filming. We shot Sarah's scenes where she is the only actor in the scenes. We checked the weather beforehand, and was pleased to see that it would not be raining, which was accurate. We all met at a specific time at a specific place and then we went off to our chosen locations. The locations for today were Oxford street, Jubilee Bridge and One new change, The Roof Terrace. We had our storyboards with us and we ensured that we stuck to our storyboards strictly and precisely to ensure that everything was filmed to a high standard. The lighting of the locations were a bit dark and dull because it was really cloudy which was unfortunate, however, we adjusted the settings to suit our preference. We all had team roles (listed in a post below) in which we all stuck to. Overall, I would say it was a very productive day of filming. We are hoping to do more filming next week. Here are the pictures taken by our phones showing me and my group in action and also the locations.

Call sheet updated (Filming Day One)

As a group we decided to film Sarah's scenes first on the 17th of October as it would be more convenient as the extra actors were not available on this day but all of our group members were available and we did not want to waste this time so we decided to film Sarah's scene as she is a group member. Here is the updated version:

Inspiration/ influences for our music video

During the research stage, we decided to look at music videos of the similar genre to our music track to get some inspiration/ ideas from this.

We looked at Beyonce-Broken Hearted Girl:

When we were annotating our music track lyrics, we were struggling on how to present the car, especially the lyrics "Nights like this I be crusing". However, when we saw this music video, we knew that the birds eye view of the car would be perfect as it correlates with the lyrics perfectly. Also, the birds eye view gives a modern, urban look to the music video and this is what we want our music video to look like. It allows the audience to realise that there is a perspective behind this as we are trying to portray that the female actor is fine with being alone, and is independent and confident and simply can have fun alone. Furthermore, it subconsciously represents that the male actor will end up regretting not being a relationship with her and once she goes, shes gone forever and he will be missing out. Just like Beyonce is shown in a close-up, we will be including this in our music video as we believe that this will set the scene as it will give the audience a perspective of her emotion right from the start, and because she is alone, shows her true emotion.

We also looked at Tove Lo-Not on drugs:

When watching this video, we were attracted to the use of colour smoke bombs in this video so we all decided that we wanted to use colour smoke bombs in our video. We thought that it would represent the actor as a fun, independent character and that she does not need anyone to have fun. We will be editing the colour smoke bomb shots so that it is slow motion, to give our music video an everlasting dramatic effect. Also, as we will be using the colour smoke bomb scenes towards the end, it will be a contrast to the start as the first scene will be in black and white whereas, this last scene will be in colour representing that the male actor is missing out on a relationship with her and indeed "no chick can out do her".

Above is an attached image of the booking form which includes us signing to use the DSLR cameras and tripods. We are prepared to shoot on Saturday 17th October.

DSLR camera induction

Here is a video of me and my group listening to the induction on how to use the DSLR cameras. We learned the basics of how to use the cameras for example, we were taught how to zoom in and out, focus, changing brightness etc... We feel that this has prepared us as we are well informed on how to use the cameras, we are now planning on shooting on Saturday 17th October.
