Evaluation (All the Questions)

Media Evaluation

Updated production schedule

I am pleased that I have met all the deadlines for each task. Some of the deadlines have been changed due to the teachers giving everyone extended deadlines for certain tasks (6-shooting the music video, 7-editing and 9-Producing the CD/ DVD digipak and advert) hence why the dates are different to my original production schedule. Here is the updated version:

Question Four (Evaluation)

Changes to plan for evaluation

Initially, I was going to present my evaluation questions on Wordpress however, this was not convenient as I could not embed one of my questions which was on Timetoast the way I wanted to which was to present it visually rather than in text link, so I decided to use Blog.com, which is very similar to Blogger so I will be able to embed links the way I want to, also, it allows me to upload a banner, which is very convenient for me as I will be adding all my three texts on it so that the examiner can view it quickly. Also, I feel that Blog.com looks more presentable than Wordpress, this is due to there being a range of setting options on Blog.com. Also, Blog.com already inputs a search button on your blogs, this is convenient as it will allow the examiner to navigate through the page easily.

Music Video and Print Products Audience Feedback

I asked my friends for audience feedback for the music video and print products on Whatsapp (screenshots above of the feedback accumulated.)

Music video feedback: In the first audience feedback, I got told that the music video was clear, this is was something I was pleased with as we spent a lot of time ensuring that none of the footage was blurry or dark so that it looks professional, and this was difficult as the excel footage were hard to brighten up without looking blurry, however, after playing around with the resolution we were finally happy with the edited outcome and as a result, this payed off as we got good feedback on this. Also, the first feedback, I got told that the video corresponds with the audio well, this is something I am extremely pleased about as due to our music video being mostly performance based so it was hard to ensure it corresponds, however we looked at the lyrics in depth and came out with gestures to connote specific, significant lyrics, for example, "Check" is when she lifts her fingers up, this portrays her confidence in knowing that she is the one. Also, I got told that our music video is "visually pleasing", this will allow the audience to be intrigued to carry on watching the music video right till the end and this suggests that our music video is easy on the eye, which is a good factor in making our music video look attractive. Furthermore, in my second audience feedback, I got told that the establishing shot sets the scene, this is an advantage as we weren't initially thinking about doing this however, after the rough cut screening feedback, we took into consideration that the car scene was too long, so we decided to make it shorter using establishing shots, this payed off as it "sets the scene straight away".  Also, I got told that the burst of colours were liked, this is an advantage as through the use of bright colours, we wanted to portray the artist as a fun, bubbly character. I got told that the fading edit and cutting rates were good, I am pleased with this as we wanted our music video, to have smooth transitions to make our music video look professional. Also, I think that we portrayed the artist the way we wanted to- confident, bubbly, not jealous sufficiently, this is evident in "The song is about not being jealous and I think that the artist's attitude really reflects this well, as she seems happy and nonchalant". On my third audience feedback, I got told that the variety of locations were liked, this yet again am something I am pleased with as we took a lot of time choosing a range of locations that we felt was suitable. Furthermore, I got told that the black and white at the start was liked, this was something that we were a bit reluctant to do however, we felt that it really sets the scene and also, represents our urban genre well, as most urban music videos, use black and white footage, for example, Wstrn's In2 video is off black and white footage. We felt that this also correlated with the lyrics well ("Nights like this I be cruising"). Overall, I would say that we got extremely positive feedback on our music video as I feel that what the audience liked the most was the sense of professionalism through the use of clear photography and smooth transitions from one scene to another.  We did not get any negative feedback on our music video which represents that there is no room for improvements, however, I personally would say that we could have incorporated more scenes of the artist dancing, to fully enhance the fun, bubbly element to our music video. Audience feedback is vital as it helps with knowing the opinions of others and making sure you meet their requirements as an audience and from the feedback above, I would humbly say that we have met the requirements of the audience as our target audience (teenagers and adults) liked the video which is evident in the screenshots above.

Print products feedback: In the first audience feedback, I got told that the simplicity of the print products were liked, this is something I am pleased with as from the research and planning stage, I really wanted my print products to look simple, as I feel that simple print products look more professional, also, I got inspired by my case study of Tinashe's- Aquarius's front cover whereby, the front cover is very simplistic with the use of the projectors and very limited text, this is something I incorporated in my print products and as a result, this decision has payed of as I got complimented on the simplicity. With my print products, I wanted it to create a sense of familiarity with my music video, so I incorporated similar colours from the music video onto my print products and this is something I got commended on "The colour scheme is relatively similar to the colours used in the music video." On my second audience feedback, I got complimented on how professional and clear the images were, I was pleased with this as it took me a long time to brighten and contrast the images to a high standard. I got told that my structure is very clear, this is something that yet again I am pleased with as I focused mostly on the layout of my print products as I felt that this would be the most eye-catching aspect for the audience as it contributes to how professional the print products look. "You've kept the print products simple and sharp without making them look dull", this was hard to do as my print products are relatively simple without a lot of text on it so, taking this into consideration, while I was creating my print products I ensured that I used my house style colours sufficiently making the bright colours most of the time bigger than the dark and also, making the images really bright (not washed out) so that all eyes are on the images and because the images had the projector design on it, this factor decreased the chances of my print products look bland. On my third audience feedback, I got complimented on my chosen colour scheme, this is something that was significant during the research and planning process as I knew that the colours were significant in terms of attracting the audience, I decided to use red, white and black as I felt that these colours compliment each other and also looks modern which contributes to ensuring that our urban genre is portrayed sufficiently. I got told that I could have made my print products more clearer, I agree with this as I would say that my inside right and inside left panel were too dark however this was due to being initially told that they were too blurry so I thought that making it look dark would have been more sufficient as it is inside the CD so it wouldn't bring too much attention from the audience and also, because it is inside the CD, the plastic would contribute in making the darkness not to visible. Overall, I would say that I got good feedback on my print products with a little room for improvement however, I am pleased with the feedback as it is evident that my print products are representations of what I wanted to be portrayed in terms of simplicity and professional and this suggests that I have met the requirements of my audience.

We also got a comment on our music video via YouTube:

We were all pleased to see that someone on YouTube commented on our music video. The feedback was all positive, ticking all the criteria of a good music video, in terms of photography and editing which suggests that our music video does in fact look professional and this is the look we were going for as we did not want our music video to be portrayed as "home-made", which would have not have looked modern and we wanted our music video to look modern as it would represent our urban genre sufficiently.

Question Two (Evaluation)

Changes to plan for evaluation

For question two, I decided not to use Thinglink as I felt that it would not be suitable as I have a lot of images as I have a lot to explore in this question, so as a result, I have decided to use Prezi as it is good for use of infographics and also allows you to work on layout and this will allow me to present question two in a presentable manner.

Making changes to the single

Today I decided to change my leaflet images as I felt that they were too blurry. Here is the final leaflet.

Taking audience feedback to consideration, I made my front cover fonts bolder.

Also, I decided to change the text on my back cover as I felt that there was too much text.

Constructing the CD

Today, I started to construct my actual CD. I got a template from the Internet and placed it onto the document and then used a range of Photoshop tools to place an image on the actual CD.

Constructing the advert

Today, I started constructing my advert. I used the mock-ups as a guide. I initially decided to use the skatepark pictures for my advert however, this was not convenient as the pictures were very blurry so I decided to use this picture as I felt that it was more suitable. I also used white text so that it stands out and also used the social media icons to follow the conventions of adverts.

Constructing the leaflet (inside the CD)

Today, I was working on the leaflet that will go inside the single. I decided to use the skatepark pictures so that there is a range of pictures. I also decided to include the B letter I added on my front cover to create a sense of familiarity. I had to decrease the brightness and contrast as the original image was to bright. This is the final piece.

Constructing the inside left and inside right

Today, I used an image of the projector design for my inside left image, I brightened the image as it was too dark, I thought that using the same print throughout the whole CD would be a good idea as it would make my CD look a lot more professional.

I also constructed my inside right using the same image, so that it does not look disorganised. I added in a no fill circle as that is where the actual CD will be placed.

Constructing the spine

Today, I carried on with constructing my spine. I added in the name of the song in bold, big letters so it stands out to the audience. This is the final piece.

Constructing back cover

Today, I decided to carry on working on my back cover. I decided to move the bar code to the other side as I felt that it looked more neater and more presentable. I also, added in the website of the artist and the record labels website to follow the conventions of albums. Also, wrote the copyright texts to yet again follow the conventions of the albums I used for my case studies. Furthermore, I included the artists songs in bold so that it stands out to create a sense of familiarity for the audience. I used the same text font that I used for my front cover as it makes my single look more professional. This is the final piece.

Constructing the back cover and spine

Today, I decided to add in the bar code to my back cover to follow the conventions of album covers, I plan to carry on constructing it next lesson.

Also, I decided to start on the spine, as I knew it wouldn't be time consuming, I used the same font text as my front cover so that my album covers look professional. I added in the record labels name and also number code to follow the conventions of albums that I used for my case studies.

Constructing the back cover

Today, I decided to start my back cover as I had finished my front cover. I looked through the photoshoot pictures and thought that this image was suitable. I decided to brighten the image as it was too dark. I decided to position the model in the corner so that it would be easier and neater to add text to the clear side.
